Why does paint look different on the wall than on the chip?
Short answer
Three things change color: the amount of it (a whole wall intensifies a color compared to a small chip), the light (daylight direction, time of day and bulb temperature), and surrounding colors like floors and furniture that reflect onto the wall. That's why large samples tested in place are essential. How to avoid surprises
- Go one or two shades lighter than the chip you love for full walls.
- Look at samples in morning, afternoon and evening light.
- Check under your actual bulbs. Warm bulbs (2700K) yellow colors; cool bulbs (4000K+) make them bluer.
- Screens aren't accurate. Always confirm with a physical sample.
