Color questions

How do I pick paint colors that go together?

Start with one color you love, keep undertones consistent, and use a harmony from the color wheel: analogous colors (neighbors) for a calm look, complementary colors (opposites) for contrast. Use the 60-30-10 rule so the main color covers about 60 percent, a secondary color 30 percent and an accent 10 percent.

Can a paint store match the colors from the Color Studio?

Yes. Paint counters can match a hex code or a printed sample, or suggest the closest color in their fan deck. Screens vary, so always paint a real sample on your wall and check it in daylight and at night before buying gallons.

What is a good trim color for my walls?

Trim looks crisp when it contrasts with the walls in lightness. A soft white with a hint of the wall color is the safe choice. Dark trim, such as charcoal or deep green, works well with light walls for a modern or farmhouse look.

Which color harmony should I choose?

Analogous and monochrome palettes are the easiest to live with in bedrooms and living spaces. Complementary and split complementary palettes add energy and work well for front doors, kitchens and accent walls. Triadic palettes are playful and suit kids' rooms and creative spaces.
