Common questions

What is the best paint finish for a bathroom?

Satin is the best all-around finish for bathroom walls because it resists moisture and wipes clean without being too shiny. Semi-gloss is even tougher. Use a mildew-resistant bath paint and run the exhaust fan during and after showers.

Eggshell or satin: which is better?

Eggshell has a little less sheen and hides wall flaws better, so it suits bedrooms and living rooms. Satin is a step shinier and more scrubbable, so it suits kitchens, baths, hallways and kids' rooms.

What paint finish is best for a kitchen?

Satin for kitchen walls, and semi-gloss or satin cabinet enamel for cabinets and trim. Both clean up grease and splashes far better than flat or matte paint.

What sheen is best for a kids' room?

Satin, or a scrubbable eggshell. Kids' rooms get crayons, hands and bumps, so washability matters more than hiding minor wall flaws.
